Adam is the first person to live on Earth. Eve is the second. Adam is the patriarch of the human family, Eve is the matriarch. Through them all nations were created. The name Adam in Hebrew means man or mankind. Moses 4:26 defines Eve as the mother of all living. This may refer to her being the mother of all living people, but it may also refer to both all living people, plants and animals. In the later case it is likely that she helped create the Earth in the pre-earth life.
Adam and Eve both partook of the forbidden fruit and were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Here they were commanded to multiply and replenish the Earth. The word replenish here does not mean to fill again, but to fill a lot. The scriptures mention three of their children: Cain, Abel, and Seth (Genesis 4). Even though only three are mentioned we can be certain they had many more.
Adam held the priesthood, the authority to act in the name of God. He ordained this priesthood upon his son Seth, his grandson,… and his great-great-great-great grandson. Adam lived nearly a thousand years before he died.
